In Balance
June 9, 2023
Vampire visible only in photos, mirrors,
Surviving off bloodstained shards of glass reflections
Images hypodermic in an empty
Vessel for sanguine tithes and sacrifices.
Glass of water balanced on its rim,
Surface tension holding strong
By unknown quirk of physics.
In a surfactant flood
The film breaks apart
Water rushes out
Back to its
Baseline
State.
Construct it just so and an object’s center of gravity
sits outside itself,
and it balances impossibly over the edge.
It stops being a cute party trick
when you do it to a person.
