harrow the ninth

how do i even begin?

let’s start here: harrow the ninth is really fucking good.

it’s an incredible book. there are so many delightful turns of phrase, so many clever reveals and recontextualizations.

it’s also an incredible sequel. appropriately, it treats its predecessor as raw material for necromancy, reviving and elevating what came before. it expands to fill the space provided; it expounds upon and fleshes out; it uses previous events as springboard. i found myself recommending the first book to my friend solely so they could get to this one.

everything about this book is so profoundly earned. every wild reveal had groundwork behind it. everything fits together in retrospect. there’s a goddamn homestar runner reference in here and it’s barely even incongruous.

harrow the ninth rewards investing time & energy into it. discussing the book after the fact has only deepened my enjoyment of it. it’s well worth your time, and i highly highly highly recommend it.
